Pop Culture Sexuality Propaganda and "The Good Doctor"

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen While many propagandists use heavy-handed tactics such as concentration and repetition, harassment, appeal to ridicule, and so on, others are conniving sidewinders. In " Pop-culture Evolutionism ", Paul Price discussed how evolutionism is spread through popular culture. In a similar way, this is happening with sexuality. Credit: Pexels /  Marcos Flores Non-Christians easily follow trends in the world, but it's mighty difficult for Christians to resist floating downstream as well. Television, movies, music, performing artists, news media, sports stars, and others influence our way of thinking. People have been duped into thinking that the number of LGBTQ+ people is much larger than it really is, party because of how they are  presented on television . My wife and I watch  The Good Doctor , a program about an autistic surgeon and his struggles with the medical community. (An episode  inspired me to write an article .) It is made quite well and gets v

More Leftist Malarkey in the Secular Science Industry

Image
When writing about science and the origins controversy, it is a given that Darwinism and theology will intersect (such as the dependence of atheism upon Darwinism). It is indeed unfortunate that the secular science industry is riding for the leftist brand instead of trying to do science. Mostly made at PhotoFunia Some people may scoff when we say that the secular science industry supports causes that are on the far left of the political spectrum, but we can back up such claims. Copyright and Suspicious Photo Sites

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen A few years ago, I wrote an article with a passel of links to free images that claim to have no copyright restrictions. Although I targeted it toward Christians so we do not get a bad testimony for using stolen images (just because it is online does not make it up for grabs), any blogger can benefit. You can read that one at " Images on the Web: An Appeal to Caution ". Credit: Pixabay / Arek Socha The safest way to use an image in your weblog is to take your own artwork or image, avoiding recognizable people and identifiable brands. I believe that the main point of that is to avoid showing them in a bad light, or that an article might reflect poorly on them. Identifiable children are, for me, right out. In addition, we must be careful to avoid making it appear that the person, brand, image supplier, and so on are not endorsing an article or site. Landscapes, wildlife, things like that are great, but some of us need something more. Reputable

Weasel Words and the Gay Gene Study

Image
Scientific news confirmed previous scientific news. Namely, there is no such thing as a gay gene. People who claim they were "born this way" can make all kinds of explanations, but genetics is not supporting their lifestyles. The very big new study had scientists and tinhorn news reporters dealing from the bottom of the deck, however. The saying applies here: torture the evidence enough and it'll confess to anything. This study on homosexuality was about behavior, not orientations. Conflicting items from the report were cited, but we see that many genes are associated with homosexual behavior — and with other things as well. One even is a part of the sense of smell, so that's a good indication that the results do not pass the sniff test. An important part of the research tends to be neglected by leftists: causation and correlation are two completely different things. Materialists seek to deny that we are created by God, and are instead slaves to our biochemical im

Productivity with Free Software

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Although money makes the world go around (just check the tracking and advertising reports about major companies, for example) there are still some good-hearted and generous people around. Much of what gives voices to many is free or low-cost. Sometimes I return the favor by mentioning products or giving image credits, but I don't get one red grotzit for doing so. Left image: cropped from Freeimages / Leena Naidoo The image on the right is the left image modifed with FotoSketcher Sure, some companies and individuals will sell stuff at different levels such as the free, pay more for some features, pay a lot more for all the features. I use a wagon train-load of free materials (most notably Open Source and Freeware), but I admit that I've been burned by a few bad risks. To reduce these, I check reviews and if I download something, I can scan it with my free versions of Malwarebytes and the Avast! antivirus scanner — both of which were highly rec

Modern Culture and Changing Morality

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen This is one of those articles that will probably be outdated within days, but I am writing it because the time-sensitive examples should still be useful in support of the principles they underscore. As societies change, so do moral "standards" — unfortunately. There is an ultimate standard, but that is unwanted nowadays. Credit: Unsplash / purplepic Rescinding the Offer Kyle Kashuv was a survivor of the Parkland school shooting by a leftist in 2018. He was admitted to Harvard, but people who disliked his pro-Second Amendment views dug up dirt on him, sent it to Harvard, and they rescinded their offer. Chris Stigall discussed this in his podcast at about the 37 minute mark. Apparently, even though Harvard, a bastion of anti-Christian and anti-Conservative thought (ironically, it was established on Christian principles ) has decided that certain politically incorrect words deserve their harsh judgment. Saying such things was not worthy of

Genetic Tampering, Ethics, and Evolution

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen This is an important topic for any day, but even more so for Question Evolution Day . Western civilization has strong Christian roots which have, in turn, effected ethics. That is mighty helpful, since modern science was mostly founded because of the biblical worldview . Unfortunately, with postmodernism, Darwinism, and materialism galloping wild and free, ethical and moral concerns in science are fading into the background. One example is of scientists who want to keep human embryos alive even longer before killing them . Other countries do not have such ethical constraints from the get-go. China has been working on the CRISPR genome editing tool, and are "unfettered by rules". While we have ethical concerns , the ChiComs are materialists and force atheism on their people, so we know where their "morality" will lead.  In addition, China is moving forward with cloning, announcing that they have successfully cloned two monkeys. The co

Morality and the Crowd

Image
The source of morality is disputed among secularists, some claim that it comes from evolution, some say it is based on society, some postulate other sources. People who have a materialistic view of morality cannot  have a consistent moral standard, and end up with disastrous speculations  when they suppress the truth. Riot in the Galleria , Umberto Boccioni, 1909 I reckon it should be common sense that you can't follow the crowd. (Isn't following society's dictates a form of just "following the crowd"?) I don't like crowds, you never know when they can get mean. Things get out of hand, next thing you know, the saloon's ceiling is shot full of holes, the town marshal and his buddies show up, and guys spend a few nights in lockup, even after they get sober. Individually, if you asked these rambunctious patrons about right and wrong, they'd have told you differently than what they did that night in the saloon. Those jaspers knew better than to get r

Can Secular Science Peer Review be Repaired?

Image
There are people who consider peer review as the gold standard in science, and it is somehow a guarantee of truth. Not hardly! As we have seen, the secular science industry is becoming increasingly biased and involved in leftist political activism . Add to this the fact that their peer review process discriminates against creationists, has numerous retractions, passes junk (including computer-generated papers ), and is pretty much a good ol' boys' club. Their image has a bad complexion , and some scientists are calling for major changes. Made at Hetermeel.com , then modified with colors Unfortunately, the sidewinders in charge want to circle the wagons and maintain the status quo. They don't want transparency and accountability. Others want to improve ethical standards. Wait, what? People who reject the Creator and his Word have no consistent moral standard are going to decide what is right and wrong? Scientists are people, complete with presuppositions, knavery, a

Atheists Distrust Atheists — With Good Reason

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen It is no secret that the public has trust issues with atheists, and also with the secular science industry. This is nothing new, and there are still laws on the books that prohibit atheists from holding some elected public offices. (Ironic, most atheists erroneously claim that atheism is not a religion, but keeping them out of office violates their religious rights.) There was a time when the assertion of atheism was shocking and put people to the one making the declaration, but not so much these days. They still score low in polls . People are reluctant to trust atheists. Do they ride their horses side saddle? Put their pants on both legs at once instead of one leg at a time? Steal booze from homeless winos? No more than anyone else that I'm aware. They do earn their bad reputations, however. The mass-murdering dictators of the 20th century were mostly atheists (Hitler was not an atheist, he was an occultist at best), Norwegian murderer Brevik wa

Ad Blockers and Stealing

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Some website owners have a burr under their collective saddles about ad blockers, and we frequently encounter a site that will say, in essence, "Shut off your ad blocker or we won't let you view our site". (If I wanted to get bullied, I'd talk about the truth of biblical creation science to atheists.) So, I click out of the site — which may have received traffic if I used them as a reference in an article. There are some sites that ask you nicely to shut off the ad blocker, but let you continue. An attitude like that may cause me to reconsider if I have to go back there again. Some cranky authors attempt to make a case that  we are "stealing" if we use an ad blocker . Are we stealing when we fast-forward through commercials on our DVRs? Wonder where their foundation is for morality and ethics. Anyway, such a complaint doesn't make a whole heap of sense if you study on it. Bandwidth Not everyone is blessed with ultra-high spe

Induced Morality

Image
The public has a strange relationship with the secular science industry. Some adore it and put their unquestioning faith in it (Scientism), such as I saw years ago in response to a question: "Scientists will come up with a pill for it or something". Others have a mixture of trust and increasing suspicion, especially since the secular science industry has been betraying that trust . Now there's speculation that morality could be done by ingesting certain chemicals. Made at  Custom Prescription Maker This should raise alarm among thinking people: whose  morality? Most likely, it would depend on those in power. Atheists and other secularists have no consistent foundation for morality, and some seek it through evolutionism . Some owlhoots believe that they are doing good when they are doing evil. As a Bible-believing Christian, I do not want secularist "values" shoved down my throat — which could happen literally. We often take pills to feel healthier, to e

Leftists Using the Arts for Propaganda and Bullying

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Here is another post inspired by my buddy, Dr. Albert Mohler. "He's your buddy, Cowboy Bob?" Sure! He comes to Kingston, New York now and then. We go out for nachos, have a few beers, throw darts, and discuss theological matters. It's fun. Actually, he has no idea that I even exist. I'd like to have a few hours discussing some things with him, though. Have you ever noticed that people in the arts tend to be politically left and morally liberal? Woodstock, the founders of the famous rock music festivals, is just a few miles away from me. Lots of artsy stuff, leftover hippies, strange shops — my wife and I feel creeped out just driving through there. Naturally, their vote is overwhelmingly Democrat. (For that matter, the state of New York hasn't voted for a Republican since Ronald Reagan in 1984. If New York became a "red state", I think Woodstock would relocate to California.) Artists seem to engage in all sorts of lef

Lying, Science, and the Bible

Image
Howdy! Hope all y'all are having a great Question Evolution Day ! When someone commences to telling lies, it usually brings an uncomfortable feeling along with it — at first. More lies get told, and it becomes easier. Some folks are so used to lying, they do it automatically. There are those who get so accustomed to lying, they are suspicious of others, even becoming unable to discern deception from disagreement, humor, or error — especially when they have a precommitment of rejecting the truth of another's position. This is easily seen in atheists and anti-creationists, who are unwilling to even consider the truth of biblical creation science, or to admit that God exists (Rom. 1:18-23, Psalm 53:1). Image credit: Freeimages / Christian Carollo When someone lies, it often escalates in another way: having to tell more of them to make a convincing story. Lots of details need to be kept straight, and the whole tall tale becomes so cumbersome that people get caught by the d
