Celebrating Apollo 11 Splashdown 50th Anniversary

Image
As a child, I was excited watching the Apollo 11 events. Of course, the details are fuzzy fifty years later, but I was excited to celebrate the anniversary. There are many details that the public did not know and I learned some of these just in the past few days. This helped me appreciate the events more fully, especially the skill of the crew and all the people involved that made it all happen. NASA  image modified through  FotoSketcher Can you believe some tinhorns (often flat-earthers) think that the whole thing was a fraud? Yeah, sure, as if all those thousands of people over all those years could keep the entire Apollo program a secret!  Idiots.  Many of these people (including astronauts) were Christians and creationists , by the way. As a child playing with my space toys during the flight, landing, and so on, I was impatient. There were many details involved that needed to be performed with minute precision; it wasn't like they could do the equivalent...

Modern Creation Scientists Refuting Atheism and Evolution

Image
One of the cornerstones of atheism is evolution , which is their creation myth. Atheists and other anti-creationists have been known to say, "There is no such thing as creation science". These sidewinders also tend to ridicule scientists who are creationists, saying that they are not "real" scientists". I lack belief that those making such claims have done any investigation, preferring instead to use prejudicial conjecture, straw man arguments, and outright lying.  Credit: Pixabay / Konstantin Kolosov The view that someone must be an atheist or naturalist to be a scientist is false. Many of those who put the foundations of modern science in place were creationists, and current creationists have contributed to their disciplines and been published in science journals , often despite the blatant discrimination against creationists as a whole. It is interesting that several biblical creationists began as atheists and eventually realized that recent creation...

Skepticism in Action

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Regular readers of my Weblogs know full well that I believe in healthy skepticism, as it helps us obtain adequate information instead of accepting unsubstantiated claims. W ere those ads really rejected for inclusion in a Super Bowl broadcast? Maybe, maybe not. But it's not exactly a serious claim that can change your life , is it?  Fact-checking comes to the forefront when something is on the fantastic side. I've come to expect atheists and evolutionists to believe and pass along negativity when it comes to Christians and creationists, but it really burns my prairie schooner when Christians embarrass themselves (and other Christians) by neglecting to do a bit of fact-checking before passing along wild stories. Some even pass along material from parody sites without checking the sources. This child believes in asking questions and getting details. The end of the world is a good example. Pluto, Special Pleading and Popular Opinion

Image
The fallacy of " Special Pleading " is a form of "Moving the Goalposts" by ignoring important information, changing criteria to bolster one's position, appealing to emotions, and similar tactics. Christians and creationists have to deal with this quite a bit. F'rinstance, when I said that Bill Nye used bad science and logical fallacies when debating Ken Ham, I produced abundant supporting evidence. A critic cried, "...I have NOT studied it in detail. However, I note that it FAILS to quote anything Nye actually said at the debate with Ken Ham VERBATIM..." That's a clear example of moving the goalposts and special pleading (as well as the brilliant logical procedure of arguing from something not studied). Owlhoots like this tend to defend their logical fallacies with more fallacies, such as appeal to motive . So, how about Pluto, the ninth planet of the solar system. Oh, wait. It was disqualified, and with apparently good reasons . People d...
