Bigotry through Low Expectations

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  In the formerly United States, today is the conclusion of Black History Month. Some things I want to say will rile a few folks. (Of course, those will be the ones who "think" with their emotions and are less concerned with actual thought.) This material came together for me in a big box store. Like many places, our shopping experience is allegedly enhanced by the music system. The store had several announcements about being proud to support black-owned businesses. They also exhorted people to buy items made by those businesses. Limestone near Rosendale, NY railroad trestle, Photo by Cowboy Bob Sorensen (modified with FotoSketcher The messages on that radio rubbed me the wrong way — they struck me as manipulative. Conservative talk show host Chris Plante refers to the "soft bigotry of low expectations." The messages sound like " white man's burden " because they need the help of white people in order to succeed. Blacks also nee...

Another Wicked Atheist Meme Refuted

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Atheists are mighty fond of making "memes" to ridicule Christians and biblical creationists, receiving praise from their pestiferous comrades. While claiming to believe in reason, these things are usually straw men. Add to this the extrapolation fallacy , and thinking people should reject these out of hand. Modified angry monkey image from Freeimages by  Nico van Geldere The extrapolation fallacy is also prominent among advocates of fish-to-fool evolution (see " The Extrapolation Fallacy in Evolutionary Storytelling "). Atheopaths not only make "memes" that can be refuted , but they use the extrapolation fallacy in posts on their social media. The exception is used as the rule. For example, there are instances of when someone in a religious cult refuses a vaccination or other medical treatment for a child who tragically dies. This means all "religion" is bad according to such posts. No, it means there is somethin...

James Watson gets the Cold Springs Shoulder

Image
Credit: RGBStock/ Tomislav Alajbeg by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Because this is a caustic subject, please read carefully so you do not misunderstand the points I am making. Does Dr. James Watson wonder why the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory took away his titles? It's elementary, Watson: racist views are not cool any longer. Statues of Confederate army leaders are being torn down because the South wanted to keep slaves; other racists are in trouble (except for Democrats in good standing, like Sen. Robert Byrd and others). If you say something that even hints at racism, you can be in a heap of trouble. Ken Ham pointed out that if these people who are upset about racism were consistent, they would disassociate themselves from Charles Darwin, who had blatantly racist views . The Bible tells us the opposite, that there are no "races" , only ethnic people groups. That's right, "race" is not a biblical position. Although racism has been with us almost from the ...

The Racist Nature of Evolution

Image
Biological arguments for racism may have been common before 1859, but they increased by orders of magnitude following the acceptance of evolutionary theory. — Stephen Jay Gould, 1977 Evolution is racist. Why is this concept not being proclaimed more clearly? Evolution, as is popularly defined, is a gradual continuance and weeding out of physical traits. Therefore all the physical traits that we know as defining race……skin color, shape of the eyes, hair, etc., are all supposed to be due to some evolutionary benefit for survival. So we are told, no trait survives the proces of natural selection unless it benefits survival in some way. Therefore all the races of human got that way due to some evolutionary reason. The shape of the eyes, skin and hair color, all presumably got that way for a reason benefitting survival. This, by definition, is racial. Notice what I’m NOT saying. This does not mean that every person who holds to evolution is a biased racist. I’m not sa...
