Great Baals of Fire at the Commonwealth Games!

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Something flew under my radar that I would have missed except for a post from WHYOutreach . So anyway, while there are some folks who imagine occult symbolism and conspiracies everywhere they turn (such as the CERN collider causing the end of the world ), this imagery is blatantly obvious. People who know their Bibles and biblical history are aware of the demon known as Baal. How do you pronounce it? On Stargate SG-1  and other places, it's pronounced ball , like bouncy. Some say bail , like what you do when the boat is filling with water (I use this one). Others insert a gap, Ba'al, making it buh-ALL . However it is pronounced, it is a generic way of saying lord. Then it became a proper name. Since I can't find a legal image, here's the Palmyra Temple of Baal-Shamin, WikiComm / Dosseman  ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) So who was this sidewinder, anyhow? Basically a fertility deity for Canaan and Phoenicia — better yet, read " Who was Baal? " Differ

The Destructive Nature of Narcissism

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen This is an article that I was going to write for a long time. Originally, I thought I could make it work over at Piltdown Superman and use the material in a discussion about atheists and anti-creationists, but it was not a good fit over there. This was inspired by an article that had been in my e-book reader for a long time and is linked later on. Cropped from Echo and Narcissus by John William Waterhouse, 1903 Is it just my imagination, or are people becoming more and more self-absorbed nowadays? We hear about people who are overly fond of themselves and are often referred to as narcissistic. The word came from an ancient Greek myth where Narcissus was excessively handsome and fond of himself, then fell in love with his own reflection. Narcissism is a personality disorder that takes many forms. The word is bandied about far too casually, describing people from world leaders to anyone else that may be disliked. As with any disorder (or even a physi

Shining the Light on Space Aliens

NASA image, slightly modified Since haters are gonna hate no matter what some of us do, I may as well give the mentally challenged atheopaths another gem: I believe that UFOs exist. There is no way that so many people for so many years have been faking video footage, lying, hallucinating or been simply mistaken. Do I believe that they are beings from outer space? Not anymore. I used to, though. People would tell me that since the Bible does not say that there are extraterrestrials, they must not exist. Their arguments were superficial, mainly a fallacious argument from silence, and I used my own bad argument, that the Bible does not tell us that they do not exist , so they might exist after all. Silly, I know. In addition, I had a weird notion based on wishful thinking and bad theology that Jesus went to other planets to offer salvation, like in the Ray Bradbury story, " The Man ". Do I believe that governments are covering up contact with extraterrestrials, or wha

Atheists and Sexual Harassment

"The idea of God interferes with our sexual mores." — Julian Huxley "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." — Aleister Crowley I have speculated before that atheism is a form of Satanism , especially the Anton LaVey version. "How can you say that atheism is like Satanism, Cowboy Bob?" Glad you asked, Nicky. But you really should check that link. LaVey's version of Satanism is based on selfishness. When someone has no established moral compass (such as atheists), selfishness and pride are paramount. Also, I have seen distinct signs of demonic influence in many of these so-called "New Atheists", who are exceptionally angry, hateful and vile. It did not come as a surprise to me when a friend send me a link to this article. He added, "Seems a lot of these 'progressive' type men (that's my word, the article uses "secularist" and "nontheist", but I just bet they're mostly proggy

Sorta Book Review: "Demonic" by Ann Coulter

Image
"What possessed you to write about Demonic, Cowboy Bob?" Thanks a lot. That was supposed to be my joke. As I've said before, doing book reviews is not something that comes easily to me. But non-fiction is easier than fiction because I don't have to be concerned with messing up the plot for someone. This is a "sorta" book review because (a) I'm late, comparatively speaking, and there are plenty of other ones out there ( like so ), and (b) I'm going to add my own thoughts and experiences, things that Annie, My One True Love, may not have thought about. I have liked Ann Coulter's work for years. Even so, I do not agree with every stance she takes, and am not thrilled with each and every book. But this one, I am strongly recommending. As expected, the writing of Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America is typical of what I expect from Ann Coulter. She has humor, insight, extensive documentation to back up her claims (she gene
