More About That Supernatural Discussion

Buona sera. There have been a few articles and discussions regarding the supernatural here and elsewhere in which I have been involved. One of the main points is whether or not (or when and how) to use "the supernatural" (or miracles, God or other explanations). Well, Podcast #177 from Please Convince Me apologetics addresses these matters to some extent, as well as discussing the Virgin Birth, the Early Gospels and other issues. It runs about an hour, but at least it's free. And the host is very qualified regarding what qualifies as evidence. You can listen to that here.

I haven't been by your blog for a while, but I was scrolling through and this supernatural post caught my eye. I'll give Podcast #177 a look-see. Also, I got myself a copy of McDowell's Evidence book you recommended and am wading my way very slowly through it. He writes in an odd style - I find it a bit disjointed, and often I find myself wanting to know more what he thinks, as less about what the hundreds of people he quotes and references thinks. Regardless, an interesting read and thanks for the advice.

I'm glad you stopped by. "Evidence" is difficult, yes, and helped many people (one of my new online friends gave a "by the way, I like that book, too" remark). McDowell has a site with useful information (there are some things at the top that may get your interest, and under "Resources" there are some videos, as well as many books. You happened to pick the most difficult one, and I'll take the blame for that.

Also, in my Apologetics Links, "Please Convince Me" is highly regarded. I won't load you up with things to chase down, you can click around as you see fit.

Where Does It Stop?

I was going to give these topics a rest, but something came up. On a previous post, Zach made a comment, and I am excerpting it here. His first sentence is an answer to a question I had asked him. Hope you're not embarrassed, but I want to give you a more complete response than the comments section would allow: My lack of belief in the supernatural is pretty much complete - I have never seen any reason to attribute a supernatural cause to phenomena. I suppose I rule out supernatural explanations because once you let one in, where do you stop? I look at an event I do not understand and go immediately to natural causes. Even if I can't figure it out, I still would assume it had a natural explanation. I'm worried that if someone started attributing causes to supernatural events, they would skip over the whole 'natural cause' thing and go straight for the supernatural, because technically everything is potentially explainable by an omnipotent being, no?

Keeping My Wife at a Distance Online

(At Piltdown Superman when I'm writing in my cowboy character, I do not.) However, I never named or described her. The reason is quite simple: atheists and leftists. On more than one occasion, I have been physically threatened by them, especially angry misotheists.
