St. Patrick's Tree

Buon giorno. It's St. Patrick's Day. Today's post will be a partial repeat of my Valentines Day post so I can give new readers the background information.

You know that I've gone on about how Christmas trees are being called "holiday trees" by the touchie-feelie politically correct crowd, even though it's not fooling anybody; we all know what those trees really are, and what they're for.

A few years ago, I was listening to Glenn Beck on the radio. He was making "holiday tree" remarks that I thought were spot on. Essentially, they ran like this: "We have our holiday tree that we keep up all year. On President's Day, we hang dollar bills on it, and we decorate it for...", and he kept going with a few other humorous quips.

So, a worker in the local eatery put up a St. Patrick's Day tree just like she did for Valentines Day:

Yep, she's doing a real "holiday tree". She gave me permission to take a picture so I can share it with the world. Hopefully, she'll keep this new tradition going.

I think it's hilarious.

And, like my Valentines Day post, there really is no point to this. Just a bit of fun.

Persecution

Buon giorno. Wow, look at this! Persecution of Christians may be banned! Oh, wait — April 1988, Gorbachev was in power in the Soviet Union.

"Mistakes made with regard to the church and believers in the 1930s and the years that followed are being rectified. Our newspapers and magazines write about this with candor and objectivity," he said.

In his first formal reception of Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Pimen, Gorbachev also said believers "have the full right to express their conviction with dignity" and pledged the state would not interfere, according to the official Tass press agency.

Yeah, sure. It's on the books to have freedom of religion in post-Soviet Russia, but who reads the books? Sure, it's not as intense (right now) as in atheist and Islamic countries, but persecution still exists. And I wonder with the way that atheists and "humanists" keep challenging to interfere with the free exercise of religion in America (as well as leftists practically burning the Constitution), how long will it be before the same thing happens here? I'm going to continue to fight for my freedom, capice?

Contrasts

Edited 4-14-2011, deleted video.

Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which God has gifted the one above the other, and on account of the outlay they make from their substance for them. Virtuous women are obedient, careful, during the husband's absence, because God has of them been careful. But chide those for whose refractoriness [stubbornly disobedient] you have cause to fear; remove them into beds apart, and scourge them: but if they are obedient to you, then seek not occasion against them... (Koran, 4.34)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her... So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord [does] the church.  (Ephesians 5:25, 28-29 NKJV)

Buon girono. Ignorant and dishonest people complain that the Bible is "sexist", but that is not true. In reality, the value of women is affirmed in the Bible. For instance, Jesus went against the cultural trends of his day by speaking to, and even teaching, women. Quite a contrast from Islam: Beat them until they straighten up. Addendum: Where are the feminists, the supporters of women's rights, huh?

Here is a small chunk of time that I am asking from you. It is from Ravi Zacharias, former atheist turned Christian apologist. He is answering a question regarding the status of women in the Bible. This one is embedded, no external download needed (original source is here, if you want it), the relevant excerpt is below:

This is the hateful source piece
I thought I would correct some lies in the original and have some fun with it.
By the way, the real original source for the picture is here.

Unconscionable

Tweaked for wording later that same day.

Buon giorno. How low can you get? Norman the irrational, hate-filled troll made a remark to another irrational, hate-filled troll, completely off topic for the purpose of taking a cheap shot at yours truly, or will leave comments on Weblogs when I am not the topic of conversation. (I think he's still angry that I am his intellectual superior. But that is not a difficult accomplishment worth my bragging about.) Anyway, I get that. Being attacked, having petty Weblog articles written about what a bad man I am &c. is all a part of the territory.

The screen shot below has one typical lie from Norman, that I am "unable to talk about non-Christians without venom". Readers with any degree of intelligence know that I have referred to and conversed with non-Christians without venom. But the ones that get back what they give out are sobbing in Mommie's aprons, so naturally, they use absolute terms to color the readers' opinions. (For intelligent people who want to know, it's a logic fallacy called "poisoning the well". Such absolute claims are unprovable by their very nature.)

Again, I get that.

Now get a load of what happens next. Norman whines that "Fundamentalist Christians do not understand humor" (a concept that he, himself does not grasp), though I am not a "fundamentalist". He decided to exploit and exaggerate the joke that I made in a previous post and turn it into something terrible. This loser claims that I wish death on all non-Christians. (I must admit that if he had had the nerve to say such a thing to my face, I may very well have acted in a manner unpleasing to the Lord.)

As can be expected, I went off, and demanded that he prove his assertion (a challenge that he has yet to meet).

This adds to my belief that atheism leads to brain damage. It stupidifies, to use Matt Slick's word. But I think in that mix is hate. It's obvious that hate causes people to lose their focus and be unable to think clearly. Put the two together, and you get the two trolls that I am discussing right now. And others that I have discussed before.

Again, I ask any intelligent, thoughtful atheists: Why do you associate with types like this? Personally, I suspect that your silence is tacit approval of their actions, but never mind about that now.

So, I may add some remarks in a day or two in another post. After that, unless something changes radically, I am done with Norman. No more posts. I've had about a year of his attacks and irrationality. He wants to reject the love of God and head for Hell, and I am done with attempting to interfere with that journey.

To prevent whining, I am not allowing comments on this post.

Addendum: This came in via e-mail:

PBS,
I sincerely hope that you come to know and experience and live in the evidence of the love of Jesus Christ one day. I also hope that you can gain a sense of humor and ability to deal with all of these issues lightly. But first, o dark and troubled soul, you must see yourself for what you are- you're lost.    ...It is only The Shepherd who can 'find' you.  He came to seek and to save, that which was lost. That's YOU.
Yours truly,
Rhom*

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. That's all of us until we receive him as Savior.

It's All Right for YOU to Say It

Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
    Because you have done this,
you are cursed more than any livestock
and more than any wild animal.
You will move on your belly
and eat dust all the days of your life.
Genesis 3.14 (HCSB)

Buona sera. It's rather amusing when orthodox evolutionists go into damage control and put their "spin" on embarrassing discoveries. After all, we know that evolution is true, that it's an established fact (never mind that it's still called a "theory"), that the Bible is full of hooey.

What happens when discoveries make monkeys out of evolutionists? They put on a proud face and change their stories, of course. God cursed the serpent in Genesis 3.14, which is a strong implication that snakes had legs. Guess what, Grover? Fossils of snakes with legs have been found! That fits in well with the view of Creationists, that species devolve and become less complex.

"But it also says that snakes eat dust, Cowboy Azriel!"

It's a bit of a dramatic effect, don't you think? Anyone with some sense can see this. In the Old West, there would be no fatalities if "slap leather" was literal and not an invitation to a gunfight. Or if the sun really "rose" like the newspaper said. Figures of speech and bits of drama happen. Cut me some slack, willya? (See? I just did it, too!)

How many of you remember the news about the coelacanth?

"What's a coelacanth, Cowboy Bob?"

It was a kind of armored fish, found in fossils with dinosaurs and declared to be extinct for 65 million years. Except that it was found alive and well in modern times. Ken Ham makes it worse for evolutionists:
Now here’s the point. No fossils of coelacanths have ever been found in the same layers as human fossils, but they have been found in the same layers as dinosaur fossils—yet we know coelacanths and humans do live together, because they do so in the present world.
In other words, just because we don’t find fossils of certain creatures (or plants) together with humans in the fossil record, it doesn’t mean they didn’t live together.
I'm glad I can trust the Bible (Isaiah 40.8) and not have to get my "facts" changed every time that the philosophers of "science" get their wires crossed. "Wires crossed"...it's a figure of speech. You betcha.
